Good Habits – Are They Attainable?

The year is moving on. Are you happy with the ways life is showing up for you? Are you in alignment with the goals you set for yourself and getting the results? If you are like most people, you are overwhelmed with too much to do and too little time. You struggle to get caught up, but here comes new tasks and responsibilities that keep rolling in and you’ll never be able to do everything you have to do.

What you need to do is to be selective.

You have to have the ability to select your most important task at each moment, get started on that task, and get it done both quickly and well. This will have more impact on your success than any other quality or skill you can develop. If you have two important tasks before you, start with the biggest, hardest, and most important tasks first. Discipline yourself to begin immediately, and then to persist until the task is complete before you go on to something else.

The key to reaching high levels of performance and productivity is to develop the lifelong habit of tackling your major task first thing in the morning before you do anything else, and without taking too much time to think about it.

Take action immediately.

Studies show that men and women who get paid more, and promoted faster, used “action.”  This stood out as the most observable and consistent behavior demonstrated in everything they did. Developing the habits of success in life and work depend on the habits you develop over time. Choose the habit of setting priorities to overcome procrastination. The important thing to remember is that this skill is learnable through practice and repetition. Over time, the repetition will lock into your subconscious mind and becomes a part of the permanent behavior. Once it becomes a habit, it is permanent and easy to do.

How to develop new habit formation.

There are three key qualities to develop the habits of focus and concentration that are all learnable. These are decision, discipline and determination.

  • First you make a decision to develop the habit of task completion.
  • Second, discipline yourself to practice the principles you are about to learn over and over until they become automatic.
  • Third, everything you do back it with determination until the habit is locked in and becomes a permanent part of your personality.

Visualize what you want to become

An important component to accelerate your progress toward becoming highly productive, effective, and an efficient person is to think continuously about the rewards and benefits of taking action. You must see yourself as the person who gets important jobs done quickly and well on a consistent basis. Studies show that your mental picture of yourself has a powerful effect on your behavior. Visualize yourself as the person you intend to be in the future.
